My wife and I are both thoroughly enjoying it. I only have a couple of criticisms: Emma and Mr. Knightly do not show the age disparity of 16 years between them. I would like to see a more mature-looking Mr. Knightly or a younger-looking Emma. Emma, being the daughter of a gentleman and a person of rank in Highbury does not seem to act as dignified and regal as her station. Yes, she is only 21, spoiled and somewhat haughty but I expected a little more of the poised "gentlewoman" in her. Hartfield appears like I imagine it but Donwell Abbey, although just huge and impressive, looks barren and cold. (needs a woman's touch!) Mr. Woodhouse is wonderful, especially the "cake" scene. I also loved Mr. Elton's awkward proposal scene with Emma in the carriage. We're looking forward to the next installment. |
